Online Learning Academy (OLA)
Student/Guardian Agreement
As part of the OLA virtual school, students are expected to do their best by becoming a learner of the material, being respectful in all interactions with teachers, mentors, and other students, advocating for oneself, managing time effectively, and by remaining motivated and dedicated to completion of course work.
Student(s) Agree(s):
- Attend student orientation with Nassau BOCES student mentor.
- Attend and actively participate in required weekly Zoom meetings (camera turned on is required). These meetings are part 10% of the final grade. Nassau BOCES will withdraw students who miss five or more mandatory synchronous weekly meetings.
- Join Remind, Pivot, and AP classroom, if applicable.
- Complete assignments by the due dates (100% of all gradable activities and 65% of all activities must be completed to pass the course).
- Communicate in an appropriate and timely manner (digital citizenship, ask for help, if needed).
- Manage time (course needs to be a priority in your daily routine, dedicate a minimum of 5-7 hours weekly, however, varies by course and student).
- Report technical issues regarding device/hardware immediately to your school district.
- Report program/software issues to Liz Bingham ebingham@nasboces.org
- District mentor, parent, student will be notified if a student is failing their course.
In addition, the following is a list of unacceptable conduct that may result in loss of grade points, removal from course, a failing grade, and/or disciplinary action by your school.
- Plagiarizing (the use of another’s words, ideas, expressions, or data without acknowledgement of the source: including AI)
- Submitting work through another’s login or having someone other than the student complete work
- Cheating
- Falsifying data
- Hacking or other computer crimes
- Using inappropriate language in emails, discussion forums, chat rooms, or texts
First incident: A warning will be given via email to student, guardian, district mentor
Second incident: Mandatory meeting via Zoom/Teams with student, guardian, district mentor, and BOCES representative to discuss consequences
Severe incident: Immediate removal from the course(s)
Student and Guardian accept terms of this document once the student has been formally registered for a course with Nassau BOCES.
A copy of this document will be emailed to student and guardian (for their records) following completion of student orientation.
