Nassau BOCES offers a wide-array of online courses to meet the credit and curricular needs of secondary students.
Online Courses for Secondary Students
The Nassau BOCES Center for Online Learning is pleased to offer a large selection of virtual courses for secondary students. Course offerings include Advanced Placement, Original Credit, Credit Recovery, and Electives.
The Nassau BOCES Online Learning Academy (OLA) enables school districts to provide a variety of credit-bearing courses - all taught by New York State certified teachers -for which in-district faculty are not available. Enroll a student in the Nassau BOCES Online Learning Academy and we will:
- Provide a Teacher of Record and administrative oversight
- Oversee all data reporting
District-Facilitated Online Learning
The Center for Online Learning is pleased to offer a wide-variety of virtual courses for districts that are able to provide their own Teacher of Record for course facilitation.
K-12 Blended Courses and Content
Access full-year/full-semester courses, curricular modules, and content to support blended instruction.
Blended Courses and Content for Students
These courses reside in the Nassau BOCES Center for Online Learning's (COL) learning management system, allowing direct student and teacher access 24/7/365. A district must belong to the Center for Online Learning CoSer (409) in order to access COL content. This subscription entitles districts full access to COL offerings as per the COSER description in the Nassau BOCES Directory of Services.
District teachers must hold a current Buzz Teacher License ($94/year) to facilitate these courses. This license provides access to the Buzz Learning platform through which students participate. There is no additional fees for students. Said license also allows teachers to facilitate additional courses with all students (even those not enrolled in the original course) at no extra cost. Teachers already possessing a Buzz license for the current school year do not need to purchase an additional license.
First-time users of the Buzz Learning Management System will participate in a 3-day blended training ($350) to familiarize them with accessing, editing/enhancing and delivering content.

Enhanced Digital Common Core ELA and Mathematics Modules: K-12
Each of the Common Core courses has all materials from EngageNY reorganized into a user-friendly format. These modules are enhanced with additional preparatory materials for teachers and educational resources for students. These modules can be fully adopted or adapted at a district, building, or individual level.
CCLS Digital Modules:
A district must belong to the Center for Online Learning CoSer (409) in order to access COL content. This subscription entitles districts with full access to COL offerings as per the CoSer description in the Nassau BOCES Directory of Services.
Common Core ELA and Mathematics Modules (K – 8), Algebra, and Geometry
Each of the Common Core courses has all materials from EngageNY, reorganized into user-friendly folders, linked to standards, and with student worksheets imported as MS Word documents for teachers to adapt. Teacher preparation and presentation materials, created to assist teachers in teaching Common Core modules include:
- Teacher preparation pages, noting materials needed for each lesson
- Teacher presentation files
- Teacher presentation notes
- Virtual manipulatives, where appropriate
Future development includes online standards-based assessments, video elements, and skills support. Development is ongoing and teacher-led.
Two types of licenses are available:
Content License
This license provides the teacher with access to digital modules (for one course) as well as:
- All materials are re-organized into a lesson-based, user-friendly format.
- Additional resources provided to guide teachers
- Parent resource folders by module
- PowerPoint lesson guides
- Ability to download and/or project lessons, activities, and assessments
- All student documents are converted to Microsoft Word for possible editing.
General Cost Information
- All P-6 Common Core Resources are $47/subject/teacher
- Any secondary curricula (7-12) that have been created or enhanced by teachers are $184/subject/teacher
- Secondary Common Core courses that have not been enhanced are $47/subject/teacher
- Maximum cost per teacher for curriculum: $376
Teacher License
This license provides the teacher with access to all resources available through Student Licenses, plus:
- Ability to modify, adjust, and save changes to online module content as well as upload additional content
- Ability to enroll all students directly into the Center for Online Learning’s Learning Management System, allowing direct personal access to student materials and assessments
- Assess students online and receive immediate data and feedback
- Ability for teachers to create and deliver multiple courses at no additional cost
- 24/7 access for teachers and all students/parents
Cost: $94 per teacher for license + $47 or $184 per CCLS module for content + $300 learning management system training, if needed.
Grade K-5 NGSS/NYSS Science Kit Program
Each OHM BOCES Science kit developed includes complete curricular scope and sequence, sequential daily lesson plans, comprehensive student workbook, digital content presentation, all physical materials needed, inquiry based exploration and more.

Grade K-5 NGSS/NYSSLS Aligned Science Kit Program
The NGSS/NYSSLS aligned Science Kit program content is available 24/7 via Agilix Buzz LMS with the flexibility of supplemental or blended instruction. Each OHM BOCES Science kit developed includes the following components:
- Complete curricular scope and sequence
- Sequential daily lesson plans
- Comprehensive student workbook
- Digital content presentation
- All physical materials needed
- Video tutorials for classroom teachers
- Inquiry-based exploration
- Engineering and design challenge
- Standards aligned written assessment (pre/post)
Continued development in K-5 will further support three-dimensional learning.

Grade K-12 NYS Standards Aligned Social Studies Curriculum
OHM BOCES Science Investigation kits were developed to prepare students for the Written Science Assessments for Grade 5 and Grade 8.

Grade K-12 NYS Standards Aligned Social Studies Curriculum
The NYS Standards Aligned Social Studies content is available 24/7 via Agilix Buzz LMS with the flexibility of supplemental or blended instruction. The OHM BOCES Social Studies Curriculum includes the following components:
- Grades K-2 Full Social Studies Framework Aligned 80 Day Lesson Sequence
- Grades 3-6 Assessment Project: Stimulus-Based Multiple Choice/Short Response for every unit
- Grades 3-12 Student-Facing Instruction available in Buzz (1-4 units per grade level)
- Grades 7-12 Stimulus-Based Short Response Questions and Enduring Issues Essay for the new Regents Exam
- Grade 10 Interactive Regents Review Course
- Grades K-12 Enhanced New York State Inquiries

New York State Curriculum Consortium Courses
Nassau BOCES currently belongs to a consortium of New York State BOCES and school districts that are working with local faculty members to develop content for blended and virtual courses. These courses are built on a continuous improvement model and can be fully adopted or adapted at a district, building or individual level.
Full-Year Blended Courses: $184
These courses reside in the Nassau BOCES Center for Online Learning's (COL) learning management system, allowing direct student and teacher access 24/7/365. A district must belong to the Center for Online Learning CoSer (409) in order to access COL content. This subscription entitles districts full access to COL offerings as per the COSER description in the Nassau BOCES Directory of Services.

The following courses have been created by district-employed New York State teachers through a curriculum building consortium. These courses have been created on a "continuous improvement" model and can be fully adapted or adopted by a district, building or individual level. Course elements include:
- Condensed outline with major units and subsections
- Expanded outline with detail on each subsection
- Daily lesson plans with a recommended timeline and linked to course elements
- Section details that provide an overview, including background narrative, vocabulary, formulas and references, objectives, standards, activities, resources and evaluation.
- Resource selection and development linked to standards including, as appropriate:
- Content presentations. These may be in PowerPoint, Smart Notebook, or a platform agnostic slide show format.
- Worksheets/Assignments
- Labs
- Test item banks from NYS Regents exams, searchable by content area or standard.
- Unit or section level tests based on the test item banks.
- Teacher-created video
Regents Physics
Regents Physics is a full-year course designed to meet the NYS Learning Standards, including process skills based on Standards 1, 2, 4, 6, & 7, based on the Core Curriculum Guide for Physical Setting/Physics. It is designed for implementation in a traditional classroom or blended learning environment but can be adapted for fully online instruction. All instructional and assessment elements are linked to New York State Standards. Curricula obtained through subscriptions may be modified by the teacher.
Regents Earth Science
Regents Earth Science is a full-year course designed to meet the NYS Learning Standards, including process skills based on Standards 1, 2, 6, & 7, based on the Core Curriculum Guide for Physical Setting/Earth Science. It is designed for implementation in a traditional classroom or blended learning environment but can be adapted for fully online instruction. All instructional and assessment elements are linked to New York State Standards. Curricula obtained through subscriptions may be modified by the teacher.
Regents Chemistry
Regents Chemistry is a full-year course designed to meet the NYS Learning Standards, including process skills based on Standards 1, 2, 4, 6, & 7, based on the Core Curriculum Guide for Physical Setting/Chemistry. It is designed for implementation in a traditional classroom or blended learning environment but can be adapted for fully online instruction. All instructional and assessment elements are linked to New York State Standards. Curricula obtained through subscriptions may be modified by the teacher.
Regents Living Environment
Regents Living Environment is a full-year course designed to meet the NYS Learning Standards, Standards 1, & 4, based on the Core Curriculum Guide for Living Environment. It is designed for implementation in a traditional classroom or blended learning environment but can be adapted for fully online instruction. All instructional and assessment elements are linked to New York State Standards. Curricula obtained through subscriptions may be modified by the teacher.
Social Studies 7
Social Studies 7 is a full-year course designed to meet the NYS Learning Social Studies Common Core Framework. It builds upon New York State Social Studies Standard 1, relating to major ideas, eras, themes, developments, and turning points in the history of the United States and New York as described in the Core Curriculum Guide for Social Studies. It is designed for implementation in a traditional classroom or blended learning environment but can be adapted for fully online instruction. All instructional and assessment elements are linked to New York State Standards.
Global History and Geography 9
Global History and Geography 9 is a full-year course designed to meet the NYS Learning Social Studies Common Core Framework. It builds upon New York State Social Studies Standards 2 & 3, relating to major ideas, eras, themes, developments, and turning points in world history and geography as described in the Core Curriculum Guide for Social Studies. It is designed for implementation in a traditional classroom or blended learning environment but can be adapted for fully online instruction. All instructional and assessment elements are linked to New York State Standards.
Global History and Geography 10
Global History and Geography 10 is a full-year course designed to meet the NYS Learning Social Studies Common Core Framework. It builds upon New York State Social Studies Standards 2 & 3, relating to major ideas, eras, themes, developments, and turning points in world history and geography as described in the Core Curriculum Guide for Social Studies. It is designed for implementation in a traditional classroom or blended learning environment but can be adapted for fully online instruction. All instructional and assessment elements are linked to New York State Standards.
Mathematics for College and Career Readiness
Mathematics for College and Career Readiness is a one-semester course designed to prepare students for the Accuplacer mathematics placement test and college level mathematics courses. This course is geared toward students who are at risk for remedial mathematics upon college entry. It is designed for implementation in a traditional classroom or blended learning environment but can be adapted for fully online instruction. All instructional and assessment elements are linked to benchmark competencies for college level mathematics. The course was designed by local high school and college faculty. Curricula obtained through subscriptions may be modified by the teacher. The course structure includes all instructional materials for the six required units plus daily lessons for two additional units:
